Dough in the airing cupboard

The last batch of bread I made didn't rise as well as usual, probably because its getting colder now. So I proved the dough in the airing cupboard & after an hour & a half, it was ready to knock back. So now it's in the loaf tins for the 2nd rise.

I did notice the yeast says best before 2019, so that could also be a reason! Looking for fresher yeast could be tricky in the new lockdown though. Hopefully, I can get use out of the rest of this lot with more sugar, more yeast & more warmth.

I was talking to Younger Son about the bread as he saw me checking the dough in the airing cupboard, & I said I'd put 2 teaspoons of sugar in the mix this time, & he said I was like subway ha ha.  (Subway's bread is too sweet to count as bread in Ireland & some has more than 10% sugar!!)

Finished my grey socks
so I'll do a post about them soon. Now all I have in my yarn projects is my jumper & a head wrap!

I could do with some sock blockers for taking beautiful photos of my socks.

Also I could do with taking the dog out, but not till the bread's done. & then it will be getting dark.

How metaphorical! Nearly in lockdown 2. Elder Son will be home as the pub isn't going to do takeaways. I will be at preschool, & Younger Son should be at college. I think they'll try to do English online even if he is in college for the music. & it's a bit hard to work together as a band to produce music from your various homes.

I'm sure professional musicians with dedicated studios at home can do it, though it's probably hard even for them. But when one doesn't have those resources, it's super hard.

  1. Did you know most supermarket bakeries can sell you fresh yeast? You need to ask, it is not on display in the shop. Some give it away for free, too. Fresh yeast freezes well. I just bought sock blockers, not to block the socks but to take pictures :-)

    1. Thank you Christina! I'd forgotten all about getting fresh yeast from supermarkets! Morrisons even had it on the shelf in the summer, with no price attached and I told Elder Son when he asked why that it might be free. He wanted me to keep using up the kilo of dried yeast first 😁.

Great minds think alike about sock blockers!
